Reliance Jio Infocomm , the company that had been at the forefront of 4 th Generation or 4G Telecom Standard and its related activities, is expected to commence services from the 3 rd Quarter of this year. “ Reliance Jio is engaged in building up team for telecom services which is almost done. Telecom services are likely to be launched in third quarter of 2014 — July-September period starting from Delhi and Mumbai ,” shared an insider. Though a little later than expected, Reliance Jio’s 4G services will offer a bouquet of services. Ensuring there are no shortcomings, personnel strength dedicated to this venture will soon cross 7000 and is expected to exceed 10,000 within the next fiscal year, confirmed the company. Metros to get the first taste of 4G based services:  Though commercial availability is still a bit away, the company has already begun real–life trials with the platform. Reliance Jio will enter the Telecom Segment via metros like Delhi and Mumbai. Interestingly, its hub–town Jamnagar too, will be part of the initial roll–out. Once a customer–base is started to build–up, the company plans an aggressive expansion down South, followed by West, North and East. What can customers expect from 4G? 4G as a telecom data communication channel is 10–12 times faster than 3G services. Though 3G can theoretically go up to 42 mbps, Indian customers get about 4mbps on an average. Reliance recently demoed the standard working flawlessly at a speed of 49mbps. Being such an abundant standard, 4G won’t be restricted to Mobile Data. The company plans to introduce Live Streaming of Televised Content as well as Broadcast TV Signals (150 Channels and counting) via this standard. Reliance Jio has even developed a Smart Set–Top–Box (STB) running atop a customized version of Google’s Android Operating System. Unfortunately, majority of pre–existent smartphones may not be able to benefit from 4G since they are built for 3G. Though the company is in talks to bring in handsets that support Reliance Jio’s 4G standard, will the company strongly back the Mass WiFi concept to ensure a much wider compatibility initially?
